The HSCC was formed in 1966 after putting
on it's very first race (for the Griffiths Formula)
which was won by the D-Type Jaguar of Neil Corner
pictured left. The first race was organised by Guy
Griffiths who had become frustrated by the lack of races
for older sports cars and wanted to try and stop cars
being exported to the USA or modified inappropriately
beyond there original specification (or both). Penny,
Guy's daughter, started the first race (pictured right)
but now she is more familiar to HSCC members as a
co-ordinator for Group C/GTP which she helps run with
her husband Jim Graham.
From these humble beginnings the HSCC has
become HSCC the UKs largest organiser of historic race
meetings, including it's own Brands Hatch Superprix and
Oulton Park Gold Cup.
The Club has also been asked to help
organise the new historic festival at Silverstone "The
Silverstone Classic" by Silverstone Circuits Ltd and has
been asked to advise on and obtain grids for the 50th
Grand Premo de Macau and the British Grand Prix.
At the 2003 inaugural International
Historic Motor Sports Awards the HSCC was awarded
"Competition Club of the Year" and has been shortlisted
every year since. |
